What does music do for you?

Hello everyone smile

My question to you guys is how does music effect your mood and do you use music at all in your rituals or workings?

For me personally music is very important. The right type of music can easily effect my mood and my whole spirit! Rhythmic music that makes me want to dance can pick up my mood and make me feel strong. For me music and sound are an important part of a good number of my magickal activities.

For me music makes every activity a joyous occasion.

How about you guys? Any specific music?

Music can really change your mood, and for me, it's always for the better. If I ever feel bummed, I can put on Pomp and Circumstance and start waltzing by myself. I've used it for meditation, centering and grounding. I usually rely on instrumentals and classical music for my mood swings, but I haven't used it for ritual as of yet. What kind of music do you use?

Music sets the mood - and I listen to all sorts of music. I think it's safe to say there is very little in the way of genres of music that I don't care for - mostly pop - and my MP3 player can attest to that. I have a really random mash-up of different types of music on there and that's mostly just for driving!

I like a bit of music for ritual that is either calming or has a great beat and I can dance to it. That all depends on the type of work I'm doing in ritual. That tends to be more Celtic music (though not much in the way of bagpipes because although there are some that really love the sound - not so much for me) or drumming, Native American types of music or even African dance. Or a bellydance CD. Or....I'll stop. ;)

One band that I really enjoy and has a range of different sounds (calming to dance) is Dead Can Dance.

I'm the same way. I love mostly all types of music and I find that each genre does different things for me. To relax I definitly like to listen to classical and rythmic drum. I absolutely enjoy native american and tribal music while I do certain rituals. Makes me wonder what it would be like to be in a drum circle. If just listening to the music is so powerful and able to calm and center u, just imagine what it would be like if you were actually participating in creating the music

Ill look up that band u mentioned, they sound interesting smile

I'm gonna look more into the connection between music and paganism and tell u guys what I find!

I can tell you from experience that being in the midst of a drum circle is like nothing you can imagine! The amount of energy raised is very powerful and can be quite overwhelming. It is a place where you really need to be able to ground yourself well or else you'll be flying high for a long time - seriously - and it doesn't matter if you're participating in the drumming itself or dancing along. Both can be otherworldy especially if you're in a good/b> drum circle!

Music can raise or lower energy, depending on the purpose of the music. I use music during my meditations, in the morning. I have a specific playlist on my Windows media player just for that.

I listen to anything and everything, as long as it has some key elements to it. A good beat, some type of lyrical content to it, and it has to make me "feel" something. There is not much top 40 music that does this for me, on the radio today.

I listen to a podcast called "A Darker Shade of Pagan" and it has open doors for me, to what type of dark wave music is out there, since this is the type of music I really enjoy. I have tons of music to fit my various moods.
